Bike of the Month for October 1999

Suzuki SV650

How do you like your Japanese 650 twin? A British parallel twin like the Kawasaki W650? An American V-twin like the Yamaha V-Star 650? Or an Italian V-twin, like the Suzuki SV650? Suzuki takes a page out of Ducati's book to give you a Monster with two-thirds the capacity, two-thirds the price, but all the fun. For anyone used to the rev-happy nature of the typical Japanese four, the grunty nature of the Suzuki will be a revelation. Those of you already familiar with the Monster will be right at home, especially once you get used to a bike that starts when you ask it to. Every time. The trellis frame looks great, without looking too much like Ducati's. It's a cheap, fun, great-handling sportsbike. People who absolutely must have the latest and greatest superbike tool won't be impressed, but those that ride it will be.
