Bike of the Month for June

Yamaha XJR1300

This is a proper motorcycle. Think about a big motorcycle, and something like this is what you picture. Maybe a bike like this is a bit retro, but it is still a beautiful bike. And it does everything a reasonable adult would ever ask of it. It goes like stink, it goes around corners very well, and you can ride on that comfortable saddle all day. I like bikes like this, so it's a shame that Yamaha isn't sending it to the U.S. Lucky Japanese and Europeans. They always get the good stuff. All we get are cruisers and some of the sportsbikes. What the hell is wrong with the U.S. market that we can't support more diversity in models? Are we really just a bunch of bad-ass bikers or Squid Highside wannabes? I think there are plenty of other kinds of motorcyclists in this country, but we buy what we are offered, rather than what we want. But every time we get something new and interesting, we pass it up. Maybe we just haven't been offered the right kind of bikes. Maybe what we need are some big, burly, naked standards. Just like we used to covet in the '70's.
